Complex vs Compound sentences

A compound sentence combines two independent clauses with a coordinating conjunction, such as "and," "or," or "but." A complex sentence, on the other hand, contains at least one independent clause and one dependent clause, which is introduced by a subordinating conjunction like "because," "when," or "if." Here's an example of a compound sentence and a complex sentence:

Compound sentence: "I want to go to the beach, and I want to swim in the ocean." Complex sentence: "If you give me a ride, I'll buy you lunch."
